Geoid Height Calculator, Version 1.0
The ellipsoid we use in most all of our calculations is only an approximation to the
real surface of the earth, known as the geoid. The difference between the ellipsoid model
and the geoid is often referred to as the geoid height. This program provides a convenient
way of determining the geoid height for any position in the United States.
To keep the size of this distribution reasonable, data files for regions outside of the
48 conterminous states have not been included. You can download data files for Alaska,
Hawaii, and Puerto Rico from the internet. Use the following URL:
ftp://ftp.ngs.noaa.gov/pub/pcsoft/geoid96/
The files you need have the .geo extension. Similar files with the .t extension are not
usable by this program.
