I received a call for help from a client. He
couldn't properly convert a text file, though he had done many similar
ones in the past. What could be wrong?
Turns out the file was in the "Unix" format.
That is, each line of text was terminated by a single new-line character
rather than the carriage return - new line sequence that Windows
expects. So, for about the one hundreth time, I wrote a little
utility to convert the format of the file from "Unix" to
"Windows."
One would think I'd get smart and simply save one of
these little utilities. But, I never took the time to do it right,
so none of them were really worth saving.
Wallah!!! Out freebie for November 1999 was
conceived. Let's do this right, in a form worth saving.
Text Fixer will convert a text file to the desired
format. It senses the type of
input file automatically. I also sort of sandwiched in another
feature. That
is, the ability to take foxed length records of text and convert them to
an
ordinary text file. Something I have had to do numerous times with
DLG files.
Hope you find it useful.
