Dear
Mentor Software Users:
Our Internet based marketing program has been functioning reasonably well, but does
need some fine tuning. Our biggest source of support calls relates to the need for
installing the NAD27 <->NAD83 support files. We intentionally omitted these files
from our electronic distribution as they rarely change and their presence increased the
size of the download file by 2 megabytes. Also, most users already have several copies of
these files on their systems already. The files have the extension .LAS and .LOS.
To resolve this problem, we now provide two downloadable modules in each of our product
directories. The module named SETUP.EXE is the one which should be downloaded for an
initial installation and is quite large. The UPDATE.EXE module is the one which should be
downloaded if you are just updating a properly working version of the product. This
downloadable module does not include the static data files and is, as a result, much
smaller.
The only difference between the SETUP.EXE and UPDATE.EXE files is, of course, the
presence of the supporting data files. A download module which contains only these data
files remains in the DATA directory of our download site. The file is named NAD_HPGN.EXE.
Therefore, should you be downloading more than one product, and are (like me) connected to
the Internet with a slow modem, may wish to download the NAD_HPGN.EXE file once, install
the desired products using the UPDATE.EXE version of the product download, and then
install the supporting data files from the NAD_HPGN.EXE file. Note, that for Tralaine and
TralaineDLL, the supporting data files must be installed in the DATA sub-directory of the
main product directory. For HAWKEYE and DLG2DWG, install the supporting data files in the
main product installation directory. Multric does not use these files in any way.
Till next time,
Norm Olsen
