Interactive CD-ROM

Recently, La C.I.O. formed a partnership with
seasoned programmer Robert Boivin to create a new firm called Cartovision.
Their first product is Québec By Mouse, an interactive CD-ROM. This electronic atlas,
allows the user to consult the Québec map, 10 regional maps, and maps of more than 180
cities and towns, and approximately 35,000 street names. The following regions appear in
the atlas: Montréal Urban Community, Québec Urban Community, Outaouais Urban Community,
Laval, Champlain CRM, Eastern Townships, Lower Laurentides, Mauricie, Bois-Francs,
Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean, Granby, Laurentides. Alphabetical indexes make it very easy to
locate a city, a town or a street. Users can also measure distance on the maps. With the
professional version, it is possible to place markers here and there, add notes and save.

Both the regular version ($39.95) and the professional version ($69.95) let the
user print, at any time, what appears on the screen. Both versions allow navigation in
either English or French.
According to Raymond Gaudet, president of CartoVision, the product is aimed at a large
clientèle. For example, a police department could use it to keep track of the number of
accidents that occur at each intersection.
Future projects include a new Québec by Mouse georeferenced CD-ROM and a
Toronto area Map and CD-ROM.
